The Marketplace - is the central and the most important place in little Kazimierz. Paved with cobblestones, with a wooden well in the middle and picturesque house frontages, it is a favourite place visited by tourists. Open-air cafes are set up here in summer where you can drink or eat something. Celejowska Town House - a town house in the mannerist style erected at the beginning of the 17th century by the rich merchant Bartłomiej Celej. It has a distinctive facade and an attic. The Museum on the Vistula and Museum of Goldsmithery are situated there. St Nicholas’s and St Christopher’s Town houses - the buildings were put up in the 17th century and owned by the two Przybył brothers. Their arrangement of facades with arcades is identical. Both of them are finished with tall and decorative attics. White Town house - built in the 17th century and modeled on the Celejowska house. As a result, it gained a much simpler appearance and the attic is most ornamental part. Parish Church - the first parish was established here at the beginning of the 14th century and the church itself is older than the town. The Gothic nave was reconstructed in the Renaissance style after the great fire in the 17th century. It is worth seeing inside: the sculpture of the Beautiful Madonna, the Górski Chapel, as well as the organ which is still used during summer concerts. The Castle - built by Kazimierz the Great in 1341, the castle was a fortified bastion against the Tartars. Unfortunately, the building did not survive the Swedish Deluge which brought it to ruin. The rumour is that the castle was connected to the castle in Bochotnica, where the King’s mistress Estera lived, by means of a 3.5 km-long underground tunnel. There is a beautiful view of Kazimierz and the Vistula which you can admire from the building. The Tower - stands on top of the castle hill, and was once called the upper castle. Before the castle proper was built, it played a defensive role. Supposedly, it also served as the headquarters of the customs guard and the river lighthouse. The Mountain of Three Crosses - on top of the mountain there are three crosses put up in 1708 after an epidemic of cholera which struck and decimated the town’s population. One of the viewpoints of Kazimierz. The Small Marketplace and Jatki - with the highlight of the wooden slaughter house (Jatki) – the only reminder of the former Jewish quarter. The Festival of Folk Groups and Singers is held here in spring. The Granary of Mikołaj Przybył - the granaries of Kazimierz stand along the promenade which is situated on the banks of Vistula, on the site of what once was the town’s main commercial port. The Granary of Mikołaj Przybył now houses the Natural History Museum. |

Janowiec Castle - the castle situated across the River Vistula was at one time the seat of the eminent families of Firlej, Tarło and Lubomirski. It was built in the 16th century. Nowadays you can visit the courtyard, the cloisters, the viewing area and the reconstructed Northern House where the exhibition ‘The story of the castle. Construction, Development and Conservation’ is displayed. Puławy - once the town was the seat of the Czartoryski family. Relics of their heritage that you can admire till the present day include the magnificent park in the English style, the Czartoryski Palace, the Gothic House and the Temple of Sybilla. Nałęczów - a health resort with a beautiful spa park, the Museum of Bolesław Prus and Museum of Stefan Żeromski. |
